Sometimes people don't want to bother me to get a pan for the campfire, but believe me, it bothers me more to have to replace or resurrect a piece of the stainless cookset from any kitchen.
For starters, most people don't know enough to put liquid dish soap on the outside of a pot before they put it on the fire. That way, all of the black washes off without scouring.
The real point of this post though is to state that rarely is a pot needed for cooking on the fire. I have seen enough tricks in 25 years of owning a campground to satisfy every cooking whim (except sauces, which are best in a double boiler) without a pot. Well, almost. So...if you ask me for a pot I will ask what you want to cook, and teach you how to do it without a pot. If it is not possible without a pot, or you think that it is weird or outside of your potential, I will lend you a pot for the campfire.
The dish soap on the outside of the pot is from my Girl Guide days, so it's not really breaking news. The other thing we learned in Girl Guide's Pioneer Camp is that sand cleans a pot better than any detergent or scouring agent. Sand, no soap.
I hate doing dishes. Hate buying frypans too.
